Chicago Public Schools - TI-83+ Scientific Calculator Training

Challenge
Bronner was tasked with developing curriculum for and providing functional training on the TI-83+ Scientific Calculator for high school math teachers preparing their students for standardized testing. The curriculum utilized needed to be very hands-on, specific to the functionality required in testing, and fit into existing Chicago Public Schools (“CPS”) learning methodologies.
Solution
Bronner consultants met with leaders in the CPS Math Department in order to identify training objectives and effective methodology. Following these meetings, Bronner determined that it would be necessary to deliver training on both basic and advanced calculator functionality. In order to develop appropriate curriculum and deliver targeted training, Bronner devoted time to reviewing and using the TI-83+ calculator, and developed a strong working knowledge of its functionality. After accomplishing this objective, Bronner then took this knowledge gained and translated it into user-friendly training modules and related materials for delivery in both an introductory and an advanced session.
Results
Bronner provided targeted training that could be applied directly in the classrooms by the math teachers who attended, giving their students the benefit of utilizing technology for academic gain.
